FOREWORD FOR THE WEEK: 14 FEBRUARY 2021

RECAP – AN EXCELLENT SPIRIT

AN EXCELLENT SPIRIT

Greetings beloved brethren,

This month, we are talking about excelling in and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Our God is an excellent God. His name is excellent- Psalm 8:1-9. Excellence is representative of his character and identity. The Bible makes it clear that we are made in the image and likeness of God- Genesis 1:26-28. We are also carriers of the Spirit of God and called to be partakers of his divine nature-2 Peter 1:4. We have no excuse not to be operating in excellence.

Daniel was a man described as having an “excellent spirit’’- Daniel 5:12, Daniel 6:3. As a result, he was found to be ten times better than his contemporaries- Daniel 1:20. Even among presidents, he was still elevated above all-Daniel 6:3 An excellent spirit distinguishes us even in an ungodly environment.

Joseph carried the ‘spirit of the holy gods’.-Genesis 41:38. When Pharaoh was looking for a man to place in charge of national affairs, there was no one more suited for the job than Joseph even though he was a foreigner. When an excellent spirit is at work in us, many things e.g. background, race, gender etc become irrelevant.

Our Lord Jesus Christ was the epitome of an excellent spirit. The Bible says he was anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power-Acts 10:38. He was an unstoppable force as he healed, saved and delivered people of various forms of affliction and bondage, so much so that the Apostle John said if all his works were documented, the world would not contain the books written about his works-John 21:25.

The Bible tells us we shall receive power after the Holy Ghost comes upon us-Acts 1:8. In the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to function at an excellent level to the glory of God the Father. The excellence that comes through the working of the Spirit of God in us transcends anything we can get by training, education or mere human experience.

Activating the excellent spirit: useful points

  1. Count all things as loss for the gain of Christ- Philippians 3:8
  2. Do not be conformed to this world system- Romans 12:1-2
  3. Don’t quench the spirit- 1 Thessalonians 5:19
  4. Exercise yourself continually to desire the character of God being revealed in every area of your life.
  5. Make the glory of God the object of your living-1 Corinthians 10:13, Colossians 3:17

God bless us all and empower us to walk according to an excellent spirit.
