JEHOVAH MAGINNENU – THE LORD OUR DEFENCE
TEXT: PS 18:1-6, 37:1-10 & 89:8-18
Beloved, welcome to the last Sunday of the month of June. The good Lord that has protected and kept you this far will not leave you nor deny you as you call upon Him in your hour of need in Jesus’ name. Amen. The events of last few weeks with regards to what may seem like an onslaught of racial tension amid a global pandemic may have further raised one’s anxiety level and increased question as to where the world goes next.
As you reflect on the reference texts this morning (Ps 18:1-6, 37:1-10 & 89:8-18), it becomes increasingly clearer than ever that the only way we can push forward in the world as it exist today has to be with the one who has all the answers – Jesus. We can’t use logic or organize our way out of this present crisis, we will need God to help us through it
God’s Word tells us of a wonderful security that we can have in this life, and one of the best examples of this is King David. David’s life was filled with troubles, yet he had the greatest security! As we closely examine the life of David we can tell three key things about David that was clear: (1) He knew who he was in Christ, (2) He knew his God and (3) He knew the tool that were available for his defence.
One of the first things the devil tries to do to break your “hedge” is to convince you that your place in Christ is NOT what it is. Ps 8:4-5 says He is mindful of you and having crowned you with glory, He will not allow you go to waste. God is too interested in your success to quit and once that is settled in your heart, you are more focus to take on the enemy in any area he comes at you knowing you are not alone. Like Daniel and the three Hebrew boys after him, David was clear about who God is and the power available in him (1Sam 17:34-37).
If you do not know enough about the God that promised you that He will be your defence, you will not be bold to stand on the assurance of His word. Beloved, that is not on God, that is on YOU. Ps 34:8 “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” NIV. The invitation is open to you, have you acknowledged the RSVP? Beloved I urge you to accept His offer and cease from trying to do it on your own or all by yourself.
God has not changed (Heb 13:8), the promise He made to Joshua through the mouth of Moses in Deut 31:6-8 is still applicable to you, your faith gives you access to the tools He has prepared for your defence (2 Cor 10:3-4) by prayer and a life of holiness. As you rest in Him, Ex 14:14 “The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still” NIV and your defence is sure. Have a blessed week ahead and hold on/out for your miracle that is just around the corner.
