REDEMPTIVE POWER IN THE BLOOD OF CHRIST (REV. 5:9)
This month’s theme (God my Redeemer) points to three things, the Redeemer, the Redeemed and the work of redemption. Rev. 5:9 read: And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, And to open its seals; For You were slain, And have redeemed us to God by Your blood Out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation. Jesus came from heaven to redeem us to God from the power of sin and hell, shedding His blood as atonement for sin. Without the shedding of blood, the work of redemption, there is no remission for sin (Heb. 9:22). The blood of animals could not accomplish it (Heb. 4:4) but could only cover sins (Heb. 10:4). Satan deceived man and sold him to sin; Jesus purchased us back by His precious blood (Acts 20:28). Animal sacrifice in the Old Testament was a foreshadow of that great redemption to come.
But Christ came as High Priest of the good things to come, with the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of this creation. Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal Redemption (Heb. 9:11-12).
In Christ, we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (Eph 1:7). The redemptive power in the blood of Jesus Christ is unlimited, and accomplishes the following, among others, for everyone that appropriate this power:
- Deliverance from acts leading to death (Heb. 9:14) and from the empty way of life (1 Peter 1:18-19);
- Triumph over the power of the devil (Rev. 12:11) and sin;
- Purification from sins (1 John 1:7, Rev 1:5) and forgiveness of sins (Matt. 26:28);
- Capacity for holy living (Heb. 12:13) and access to God’s presence (Heb. 10:19, Rev. 7:14) ;
- Justification (Rom 5:9, Rom 3:24-25);
- Redemption from contrary covenants through lineage, marriage, etc. (Heb. 9:15).
This power can be appropriate first by accepting Jesus Christ as one’s personal Lord and Saviour, faith in the redemptive power of His blood, Godly living (Heb 10:26), and claiming the power in the place of prayer.
